| | Description | At 10.2 ounces, Kindle is lighter than a typical paperback and as thin as most magazines. Barely a third of an inch in profile, you'll find Kindle fits perfectly in your hands. Kindle is as easy to hold and use as a book. We designed it with long-form reading in mind. When reading for long periods of time, people naturally shift positions and often like to read with one hand. Kindle's page-turning buttons are located on both sides, allowing you to read and turn pages comfortably with one hand from any position. The page-turn buttons now flex inward to prevent any accidental page turns when picking up or handling Kindle. Kindle has a new easy-to-use 5-way controller, enabling precise on-screen navigation for selecting text to highlight or looking up words. Kindle is completely wireless and ready to use right out of the box--no setup, no cables, no computer required. With Kindle's 25% longer battery life, you can read on a single charge for up to 4 days with wireless on. Turn wireless off and read for up to 2 weeks. Battery life will vary based on wireless usage, such as shopping the Kindle Store and downloading content. In low coverage areas or in 1xRTT only coverage, wireless usage will consume battery power more quickly. Whispernet utilizes Amazon's optimized technology plus Sprint's national high-speed (3G) data network to enable you to wirelessly search, discover, and download content on the go. Your books and periodicals are delivered via Whispernet in less than 60 seconds. And unlike WiFi, you never have to hunt for a hotspot. | |

Kindle has promise, but lots of room for improvement Mar 10, 2010 First off, let me say I'm a techie kind of guy. I've usually built my own computers for the past 20-years, I'm a professional photographer and have shot digital for the past ten years, and new technology is often fascinating to me. All that said, the Kindle 2 is "OK". I bought it originally to reduce the number of books and magazine I carry with me while I travel. In that respect, it does a good job. I receive USAToday daily, PC Magazine monthly, and have two books on it. The great thing about it is that when I'm reading a book (in the the most recent case, Nelson DeMille's "The Talbot Odessy"), my reading place is synced between my Kindle and my iPhone, on which I have the Kindle app, so I'm never without something to read. The Electric Ink, as they call it, is pretty legible. However, the resolution is not great on the illustrations from USAToday. Also, you can only download to the Kindle if you have an AT&T signal -- NOT WiFi.
IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED: color screen, higher resolution, ability to use WiFi as well as AT&T to download, backlit display that can be turned on or off, more places where you can easily place your fingers to hold it without hitting a key accidentally.
Stay away from the kindle!! Mar 10, 2010 Protect your local economy and shop at your local bookstore!! The kindle does nothing to support your neighbors - SHOP LOCAL!!
LOVE my Kindle! Mar 10, 2010 I really love my Kindle -- it is my favorite toy. I'm a voracious reader and enjoy reading all sorts of books from mysteries to biography, action-adventure, history, and current events. While I love getting books from my public library, they don't always have what I want and I hate being without something good to read when traveling or when snowed in at home. Being able to download a new purchase (even slowly due to our rural location) is a real luxury.
The Kindle is easy to use and seemed a natural way to read after only a couple of chapters.
How Did I Ever Live Without a Kindle? Mar 10, 2010 Love the portability of having a newspaper, magazine or book all in one convenient Kindle - plus we're saving trees! Slim and lightweight! I carry my Kindle everywhere I go which encourages me to read the articles and the books that I have downloaded. I wish that the Kindle displayed the time of day - but other than that it is worth more than what I paid.
New gadget, really handy Mar 10, 2010 I like the hardware very much, it is easy to use and friendly. I do not miss printed paper at all, I just wish there were more titles and some books in other languages (i.e. Spanish or Italian)
